Transform Your Smile
with Star Dental Smiles

Dental Care

No matter how old you are, your oral health relies on routine care from a dentist.

Dr. Kermanshah and Associates treat patients of all ages, which means we make sure children start on the right path to dental health, and we provide a variety of treatments geared toward helping ensure you keep your natural teeth for a lifetime. Here is a brief list of the most common services we provide at our clinic.

  • Dental Cleanings

Dental cleaning is a preventive treatment that is important for maintaining good oral health and remove plaque and tartar buildup. We also conduct thorough examinations at each dental cleaning to identify potential problems that may arise. It is recommended that patients visit their dentist for a cleaning at least every six months.

  • Gum Disease Treatment

Gum disease often is a result of insufficient teeth cleaning. When plaque and tartar begin to build up on teeth, the bacteria causes gum inflammation, called gingivitis. When gingivitis goes untreated, periodontitis (bone loss around teeth) can develop. Our staff is highly trained in periodontal treatments including root planing and scaling to remove buildup above and below the gum line. If you require extensive treatment, our periodontist can deliver the latest treatment options. Periodontists are experts in the treatment of gum disease and specialize in the placement of dental implants.

  • Pediatric Dentistry

At Star Dental Smiles we understand how scary the dentist can be for children. We encourage parents to begin routine dental screenings as early as age 3 so children can get used to the dentist. We strive to make children’s visits fun and exciting. We offer a range of treatment options for children including sealants and fluoride therapy to prevent tooth decay. Early prevention is key to protecting your child from serious dental problems in the future.

  • Tooth-Colored Fillings

Tooth-colored fillings are similar in color and texture to natural teeth, making them more popular than traditional amalgam fillings. In addition to restoring cracked and decayed teeth, the fillings may also improve the size and shape of teeth. The tooth-colored composite resin used to make the filling provides a more aesthetic option to regular silver amalgam fillings. For large cavities or areas of decay, tooth colored fillings may not be the best option. However, the fillings stand up very well when used in small to medium areas.

  • Crowns

Dental crowns are necessary when your tooth has more decay than can be safely repaired with a filling, or if your tooth has cracked or chipped significantly. We provide crowns made of durable porcelain that are custom designed to fit over the tooth in question. When completed, the crown will look just as nice or nicer than your adjacent natural teeth.

  • Metal-Free Crowns

We offer metal-free crowns as an alternative to regular dental crowns, or caps. Crowns made from porcelain fused to metal develop a black, opaque color as the porcelain wears away over time. Metal-free crowns use porcelain to strengthen and maintain the white color of cracked, broken or decayed teeth. The porcelain used is similar to natural tooth enamel so the crowned tooth will blend in perfectly among your other teeth. Porcelain is also durable, which makes for a beautiful, long-lasting smile.

  • Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are a popular aesthetic solution to a host of dental problems. Veneers are thin, stain-resistant layers of porcelain placed over the front teeth to improve strength, shape and color. They are custom-made to match the shape and color of existing teeth. Porcelain veneers might be a possibility if you want to cover cracks, gaps, stains or alignment issues

  • Bridges

Bridges can be used to restore the space created by one or more missing teeth. A bridge is made of porcelain fused to metal or ceramic that is secured into place by being affixed to the healthy teeth adjacent to the space created by the missing teeth. We place crowns on the healthy teeth and create porcelain teeth to “bridge” the space between them. We also can use implants or a combination of teeth and implants to support the bridge. Bridges are an extremely comfortable and very aesthetic solution to missing teeth.
  • Implants

People are living longer than ever, and while regular brushing, flossing, and checkups allow many of us to maintain our natural smiles for a lifetime, sometimes our teeth just can't keep up. If you've lost a tooth (or a few teeth) due to injury or disease, dental implants can rejuvenate both your smile and your oral health. An implant is a synthetic tooth root in the shape of a post that is surgically placed into the jawbone. The “root” is usually made of titanium (the same material used in many replacement hips and knees), a metal that is well-suited to pairing with human bone. A replacement tooth is then fixed to the post. The tooth can be either permanently attached or removable. Permanent teeth are more stable and feel more like natural teeth.
The ideal candidate for implants is a non-smoker who has good oral health, including a sufficient amount of bone in the jaw, and healthy gums with no sign of gum disease.
  • Single or Multiple Implants

Implants are versatile. If you are only missing one tooth, one implant plus one replacement tooth will do the trick. If you are missing several teeth in a row, a few strategically placed implants can support a permanent bridge (a set of replacement teeth). Similarly, if you have lost all of your teeth, a full bridge or full denture can be permanently fixed in your mouth with a strategic number of implants.
  • Teeth Whitening

Teeth discoloration occurs for a variety of reasons including age, diet and bacteria. Luckily, teeth whitening is a quick fix for most kinds of discoloration. The experienced staff at our office can determine the most effective whitening procedure for you after a short consultation. We offer the Lazer Teeth Whitening System, a popular solution for fast teeth whitening, where your teeth lighten four to 10 shades in a little more than an hour. We can also whiten your teeth with the effective tray whitening system that uses a comfortable custom tray. This will allow you to inexpensively whiten and then maintain your teeth at the desired shade.
  • Partials and Dentures

If you’re missing some teeth, one way of alleviating the situation is with metal-free partial dentures. Partial Dentures enable us to replace several missing teeth within an arch without having to alter any existing healthy teeth. When you’re missing all of your teeth, complete dentures may be called for. We take measurements and molds of your mouth to fabricate dentures that fit properly and restore your ability to talk, eat and laugh with confidence. We also offer implant-supported dentures, where your dentures are secured in place with dental implants to optimize comfort and chewing.
  • Invisalign®

Invisalign moves your teeth little-by-little using a series of aligners until your teeth reach their desired position. The aligners are made of clear plastic, making them invisible to onlookers, and provide a comfortable alternative to traditional braces. It’s as easy as popping in a new set of aligners about every two weeks until the treatment is complete. Dr. Kermanshah is a Preferred Invisalign Provider and offers a no-cost consultation to see if you are a good candidate for Invisalign.
  • Root Canals

Root canals are a predictable way of saving teeth. They are required when the decay has reached the nerve of the tooth. Dr. Kermanshah uses the latest techniques in performing root canals.
  • Extractions

Extractions are done when there unfortunately is no other option to save the tooth, due to severe decay, gum disease or trauma. We are very competent in simple to complex surgical extractions, while also performing wisdom teeth extractions.
  • TMD Treatment

Temporomandibular joint disorder can be mild or severe and symptoms can include pain in the jaw joint or muscles, limited range of opening, and clicking or popping in the jaw joint. We offer treatment in the form of custom mouth guards that make it easier for the teeth and lower teeth to glide against each other. This allows your teeth to hit evenly and therefore relaxes the jaw and surrounding muscles. These guards also prevent you from clenching and grinding your teeth, which can further irritate the TMJ.
